Down the Back Paddock

The Down the Back Paddock team came to talk to us about safety in the country. We heard how to keep safe on a country road. We know what to do if there is a fire. We watched a video on being Dog Safe. We sorted photos of hazards and non hazards. We know how to be safe around farm animals. We practiced how to get out of trouble if we are in the river. Thank you to all the people who came to help us.

Crazy Hat Day!

Today we all wore crazy hats to school! We could wear mufti too. Everyone came with food to donate to the EARTHQUAKE families. Ashley school was very lucky as we did not suffer from the earthquake so we decided to give to those who did.

The Minstrel

Today we had such fun listening to and singing along with the Minstrel. We travelled on the bus to hear all about Hiwi the Kiwi. We know how to keep safe on the water and how to conserve our fish stock. We know which fish to put back so that they can grow to the right size and how to store the catch. We only take what we can eat so there will be fish for the future.

A Fabulous Fishy Friday...

What a fun fishy Friday we had with Room 7. We created fabulous fish art. We used lots of Maths equipment to build fish and drew fish using kid pix.

We will be using our WHITE HATS to think of interesting facts. Over the next weeks we will be looking at where fish live and what they eat!

Fun Run & Walk

Today we entered the annual school fun run and walk. The rain held off long enough for us all to have such an amazing time. We all did really well.

Fresh fruit Friday

Today we all came to school with delicious fruit to talk about and to taste.

We tried longans, mangoes, paw paw, pineapple, strawberries, grapes, lemon, avocado, cucumber, dates, banana and kiwi fruit.

Some we really enjoyed. Others had a taste and texture that we were not so keen on.

No one said they would not try.

Well done for tasting new fruit.

Can do time.

We often have 'can do' time. We can make our own choices as we are learning to become self managing. At maths time we can choose to be outside or work inside with the maths equipment.

Teddy Bears came for a picnic!

Today was the day that the Teddy Bears came for a picnic. We taught them how to take turns and share the lovely food. We ate healthy carrot sticks and yummy honey. We made fairy bread with sprinkles too!

Scientists at work!

Today the whole school was busy with scientific experiments. We fizzed and foamed. We even made butter! Thanks to the great parents who helped us and shared their knowledge.

Bears! Bears! Bears!

We have been talking about bears. We all came to school with our favourite bear. We have made stuffed bears too. Today we presented our work at assembly.

Visiting the Library.

We visited the Waimakariri Library. We found that we can use the Library web

site to help us with our Inquiry learning. The Librarians gave us a tour of the Library and we listened to a great story called Shark in the Park.

Now we are 9...

Today 15 children have moved to the Star Room to work with Mrs. Taylor. This is a new class for Year 1 children. We will miss them all. You are so lucky to have Mrs Taylor as your teacher. Remember we will still do lots of fun things together.

Moving on...

Today Celeste and Georgia moved to Room 7 to be Year One students. There are now 20 great learners in there. Enjoy the next part of your learning journey.

Swimming is fun!

More Friday fun!!!!

We started making rain sticks to make the sound of falling rain. We used pasta inside our cylinders to slip past the nails that we had hammered in through the cardboard. We are decorating them ready to use, and then we will share at assembly.

We love Friday!

Today we made money boxes to save our pocket money ready to buy Christmas presents in December. We used hot chocolate containers. This was Jaya and Anna's cool idea. Thank you for helping us again.

Vegetable Soup!

We made the most yummy soup today. We chopped and grated lots of different vegetable ingredients. Three great Mums helped us to cook an enormous pot of soup. We could smell it cooking. We tasted and then we ate it up!

We've been swimming again.

We are making good progress in the pool. Some of us can float and blow bubbles. Who can you see in the photos?

Basket ball skills.

We had ball skill activities today with the North Canterbury Sports Trust team. Fraser and Lisa showed us how to dribble the ball and how to bounce pass. We are really liking their visits every second Monday.During 'can do' time we will practice these skills.

SWIMMING AT DUDLEY POOL!

Today we went on the bus to the pool to learn to swim. We have so much fun. Please come on a Wednesday at 12.30 p.m. to see us in action.

Working with large balls!

Today we practiced ball skills with two members of the North Canterbury Sport and Recreation Trust. They will visit us every second Monday for the next two terms. We learned how to dribble and stop the soccer ball.

ALGEBRA

Today at Maths time we made pede patterns. Each pede is made up of square parts and has a number of feet. We have put them on the back bench in our room. Come in and have a look.
