The answer to our question...
Yes we found out the shape is a pentagon.
Now we need to find out what shape the STOP sign is?
We will check after school when Mum stops to check the traffic outside our school.

We love Sport!
Today we worked on our ball skills with the North Canterbury Sports coaches.
They are very impressed with our listening and cooperative skills. We all feel very pleased with ourselves. We are improving all the time.
Soccer
The Ashley Hornets had their second game this week. Connor,Hannah and Sasha are in this team.
Wow... what a team they were!! They practised passing and hard kicks and the practise paid off. Everyone in the team kicked the ball and there were heaps of attempts at goal. Goals were scored by Connor and Riley and the score was a win to us. Ashley Hornets 9 - Ashgrove White 1.
Good job everyone.

Our Printmaking is complete.
We drew our cats on cardboard. We added whiskers. We cut out the shape, chose our paint colours, and used the print rollers to create one off pieces of art. They will be on display in the hall later this week. Please come and view our work. We hope you will purchase them as they are really wonderful examples of 5 year old creativity. We hope you also enjoy this short slideshow of some of the prints.
Cats, cats, cats...

Ten chicks arrived today.
George has ten chicks that hatched in an incubator. They came to school today. We all asked George and his Mum questions about them. We found out that their mother didn't miss the eggs as she just kept on laying more! At the moment they are living in a box in the laundry. They are quite noisy so they will be moved into the garage. When they are bigger the girls(hens) will lay eggs too. The boys (roosters) will go into the pot to be cooked.
So cute don't you think. We wrote stories about them.

Printmaking...
We have been experimenting with printmaking. We rubbed crayons on a variety of surfaces. This was great fun.
These cool frogs were made with potato prints.
Now we are getting ready for the Art Exhibition and sale of our prints.
Take a look at this! Can you guess what we might be doing with these cardboard cats?
A clue! We will use the print rollers!
Please come and view our work on October 2nd.

Zee Bong the Storyteller.
Today we were entertained by Zee Bong the travelling storyteller.
His quilt held fascinating stories in the designs. When we chose a design Zee Bong told it's story and we got to act in the story.
Sasha was a bull with horns!
Jackson was a fierce tiger!
Charlie was a Grandad who baked delicious cakes in a castle.

Gymnastics and swimming.
Each Tuesday this term we go to the swimming pool and gymnastics. This week we used the uneven bars and the beam.
The experiences the children are getting are amazing. We would love to see you on a Tuesday afternoon to watch us in action. We arrive at the gym at 12.30 and then go to the pool for swimming lessons at 1.30.

The New Zealand Army Band...
Today the whole school travelled by bus, to Christchurch, to see the Army Band perform at the CBS arena. The music was fantastic. The performers kept us entertained for over an hour.
The theme was "Going Wild."
Lots of other schools were there and the atmosphere was electric.
Thank you Ms Hurford for arranging this for us.

The Third Day at Home...
Wow! Snow, snow, snow!
Now we need to watch out for poor road conditions.
I know you love being at home with your children and can happily occupy the time. However there at times when the thinking hat needs to be put on.
Check out the side of this blog for other ideas and educational activities. The school website also has links to great sites.
Keep warm and safe.

Another day at home!
Yes it is fun in the snow but when you are ready to come inside and get warm try baking cookies.
Baking with children is like weaving magic in the kitchen. The sights and smells last a lifetime.
Not only the children enjoy cookies but the grown ups too.
Have fun today.
