Learning a process..

Over the last week we have been creating these fabulous fish.
First we  drew a line for  the bottom of the sea bed, with a crayon, and then used the dye to create the background. The yellow dye was allowed to dribble down over the blue to help make green seaweed.
Our fish have been made using paper plates.
We cut out his mouth and used the shape to add a tail.
Next we painted on the scales.We added glitter to give a shimmer to the scales.
We mounted the fish onto cotton reels so they stand out from the seabed. Using the hot glue guns was a challenge. However we were careful and no one was burned.

The last step was to add tissue paper to look like more seaweed.

We are all very happy with the result.

Poetry Competition

Well done to Keira who came third in the Year One competition today.
Her poem was... I wish I had a pony.
What a great job!

                       Mrs. Reeves comes in on a Wednesday for our drama session.

                       Today she read the story All in one Piece by Jill Murphy.

                       We had great fun acting out the parts of Mr. and Mrs. Large. 

                       They are elephants.

                       

                       Thank you for teaching us new things.

                               We all laughed as we sang and danced too.

Messy fun!

On Friday we looked at how things can change when mixed together.  We made a mysterious substance called gloop by mixing cornflour, water and food colouring together.  It was very hard to mix!  We then had fun with the gloop-  touching, squeezing, pouring, pinching, making it into a ball and much more.  

What happens?  

This mixture sometimes acts like a liquid and sometimes like a solid depending on how much pressure it is under.  

Here is the recipe for gloop:

Mix together two cups of cornflour and one cup of water.

Add some food colouring.

Stir until everything is mixed.  

Make sure you don't put this mixture down the drain.  We used newspaper spread out to make cleaning up and disposal much easier!

This week we welcome Carter, Corbyn and Tristin to our class.

Air is All Around Us

On Friday we had fun learning about how important and strong air is! Here are just a few of the things we tried.

We moved the air around us in as many different ways as we could using our bodies and the paper fans we made. 

We played air soccer with a straw and ping pong ball! Air can move things!

 We filled plastic ziplock bags up with air and placed them underneath an upturned table. We discovered this invisible air was strong enough to hold the table and us off the ground! 

 Wow air really is super strong!

 We blew up balloons and let them go whizzing around the room as the air tried to escape!

We made fish kites and flew them in the wind outside.
