Dressing up for a worthy cause...

Our school held a Queen's Birthday mufti day.
The money raised goes to The Rangiora volunteer Fire Brigade.
Royalty came to school.

The Duchess of Cambridge (Kate Middleton) was here today.

We are Royal!

We made and ate very posh jam sandwiches.
The crowns we made just look divine.

Enjoy the long weekend.

The deep bark has arrived!

We can use our playground for fitness again.
The lovely deep bark is in the play area.

Now if we fall we have special bark to protect us.

Screwdrivers, sand, fossils and more...

Out came the screwdrivers and pliers this morning.
We have started to take old computer parts to bits.
We are challenged to use the screwdrivers correctly.
It is a slow process and we love it.
This is all good for our hand eye coordination and fine motor skills.

Old shoe boxes came in handy today when we created our own dinosaur world.
We used sand, fabric pieces, plants and bark.
Some of us will add dinosaurs when we get home.
This was very popular.

As always we helped each other and shared.
Great team work again.
Later we shared a poem.

Holly knew a lot about Palaeontologists.
She shared her book with us that showed them at work.
Then it was our turn to search for fossils!

Here we are at work carefully using our toothpicks
to extract chocolate chips from our biscuits!
It was a slow and careful process.

Once we has lined up our "fossils" we counted
and recorded how many before we "ate our fossils".

A very, very noisy classroom!

Wow! We have had a digger and truck outside our room all day.
The workers are digging a sump hole
to drain all the water that accumulates around our building when it rains.
Once it is finished we can have our new bark placed in the adventure playground.
So today we have looked at and listened to all the machinery.

Questions, questions, questions.

We are learning to ask good questions.
It is important that we use why, when, where, how, can, is at the start of a question.
We have found out answers to questions about New Zealand.
We also have some guess who and guess what jigsaws.
They are fun and we get to practice asking lots of good questions.

During Discovery we had fun experimenting with things that may, or may not, make a sound.
Some of us had to go outside to try the cymbals on the deck!

Janine helped us to make interesting play dough.
We wanted colours that we could use in our Dinosaur world tray.

Everyone loves this type of learning and we all get so creative.
Ashley children work well together.
They help each other and share their knowledge.
Good buddies helped using kid-pix too.

Now if that wasn't busy enough
we all walked down Boundary Road to our cross country venue at the Marshall-Lee family farm.
It was a beautiful day
and lots of parents and grand parents came to cheer us on.
We all gave it our very best.
The hay bales were fun to jump over.

Now we need a lovely weekend to top off a great week.

Ashley Playcentre visit today.

Our playcentre friends visited us today.
We enjoy their visits.
Today we had the Maths shelf equipment out to share.
Duplo was really popular.

Olivia will join us in September and Joel next April.
The time will go really fast and we look forward to seeing them again.

Can the wind move it?

During Discovery time we experimented with a variety of objects
to see if the wind could move them.

We also worked on the laptops using KIDPIX to create houses.

The ipads were out too to practice handwriting.

On Sunday it is Mother's Day.
We made cards for our Mums and Grandmas.

A very happy day to you all.

Welcome back for term 2

We love being back at school again.

A huge welcome to Joe who starts on Thursday.
Remember to select a poem for the upcoming Poetry Competition.
Everyone needs to bring a cap so that we can transform it into part of our costume for our Production.
Another busy term.
