Fabulous Friday Fun!

   We had lots of fun being imaginative using the dress ups for the first time this year!

We are lucky to have Whaia Krystal come each Friday to teach us  Kapa Haka. 

We have had lots of fun learning new words in Maori.

 We now have buddy time with Rooms 7&2 on Fridays.We like reading and playing games with our buddies.  Some of the children worked with Mrs Farrant to plant our school gardens today.

Super Science in Room Six!

We have LOVED being young scientists during Discovery Time.  Check out some of the experiments we have been doing.

Growing crystals from salt! 

We watched these crystals grow up a piece a of string! It took a few days to happen.  We made them using salt dissolved in warm water!

Which one does not dance when we wave the magic magnetic  wand over the bottle?  Why?

We found that the paper clips and pipe cleaners  danced but the material did not! We observed that the paper clips and pipe cleaners have metal in them and were attracted to the magnet, but the material did not have any metal and was not attracted to the magnet!  

Blowing bubbles and making prints 

We had lots of fun blowing through the straw to make the detergent, water and food colouring mix bubble up high.  Look at all the air in those bubbles!

 Can we make water go up?  

Yes we can!  We watched the water creep up the paper towel.  We learned that this is called absorption! 

A thrilling Thursday...

Cameron the soccer expert came to school this morning.

We practiced our skills and played a game of football.

Rocco scored a 'hat trick'. Yes three goals.

A huge thank you Cameron.

And then there was music!

Mrs Treacy talked to us about percussion instruments.

Today we talked about another REACH value.

We are learning to respect each other, 

our belongings, 

and our school environment.

Thursday Sport.

Today Zac and Ryan came to teach us sports skills.

We practiced balancing.

We used bean bags.

At first we found it a bit tricky until we kept our arms out, our eyes looking ahead and not at the ground.

Then we were so good at it. 

They will come every second Thursday afternoon.

REACH values...

We are learning about our Ashley School values.

Discovery

Today we had lots of fun creating shape pictures and monster masks.  We are getting really good at using scissors and remembering to put our names on our work. Well done!

The water play, stilts and stepping stones were very popular outside in the beautiful sunshine today. 

We are very impressed with the willingness of the children to  have a go at all the different challenges during discovery time.  Kapai!

Problem solving using Duplo...

Our challenge today was to only use 6 yellow, 5 blue, 4 green and three red pieces to build a bridge.

We then put lego people on to see if our bridge had strength.

We looked in our mirror to see what colour hair and eyes we have. 

Some of us pulled funny faces.
