Two on Tuesday...

On Tuesday we say hello to Hunter and Ryia.
What a busy class we are becoming.
We know that you will love being part of our cool school.

Queen's Birthday

Today we celebrated the Queen's birthday with sandwiches and freshly squeezed lemonade! They tasted delicious !

We used Google to find where the Queen lives on a map and pictures of what the Queen and her corgies look like. We were really interested in looking at maps.

Please come into our classroom and check out our fantastic drawings of pigs.  We were so good at listening to instructions and took our time to make sure we did a good job!

Also well done Riley Blanken who came 3rd in the Year 1 boys group.

A huge thank you to all the parents who helped us walk safely to the event and for encouraging us around the course.

Terrific Tuesday

Today we had an amazing visitor.
Adrian from READING ROCKS came to talk to us.
His important message was about reading and how it helps in everything we do.
He is a fantastic juggler too.
Check out Luke on the uni cycle!
Thanks to Mrs. Tipping for organising this for us.

This afternoon we looked at another thinking hat.
The yellow hat.
We talked about the good points.

Friday Discovery

Today we were so excited to move back into our classroom!  We loved racing up and down our new ramp and paths!

During Discovery Time we have been practicing lots of skills including following instructions, how to share,  take turns  and help each other to pack up to keep our classroom tidy and safe!  We are getting really good at working with our  class mates using kind words and offering to help each other.

Today we explored the theme of Pigs.  We found out that we already know lots of white hat facts about Pigs . Check out some of the board games and  puppets that some of the children made!

We are really trying hard to take our time to make sure we are producing some quality work!

We also had fun observing this salt volcano experiment.  We mixed water, oil and food colouring together in a glass jar. We found that the oil was lighter than water so it sat as a separate layer on the top.   When we sprinkled salt on the top we watched bubbles fall to the bottom and bounce back up again.
Over the next week we will think about this question :
What happens when we add salt to the oil and water? Why?

You can check out how to do this experiment at home by clicking on this link http://www.exploratorium.edu/science_explorer/volcano.html

Rockin' Robin...

Thursday is music with Mrs. Treacy.
The instruments came out again and we are so good at naming them now.
We played and boogied to Rockin' Robin.
Tweet! Tweet!

We can really groove along to the tune!

A big day out!

Today we visited the Waimakariri Library.
Donna introduced two new stories. We laughed a lot.

We had a look around the Library and we went into the Art Galley area that has opened again after the earthquake. It has an amazing dome made of glass.

After our Library visit we went to Victoria Park for lunch and a play on the playground.
We gathered Autumn leaves ready for sorting during Maths time.
We may even use them for collage.

A huge thank you to the parents who took us and helped today.

We were pleased to see Jorja-Rose and Matthew too.
They will be starting in our class soon.

Black Hat Thinking and PMP

Today we looked at the black hat.
We answered the question... What is wrong with this?

Our perceptual motor programme(PMP) started today. Over the next 5 weeks we will use the hall on Wednesday afternoon and Thursday morning.
The programme is designed to help with fine and gross motor skills.

What a lot of fun!

We are working well in the Library.

A few photos for you to see how we are going in our temporary classroom.
We are happy to be back at school.

Tomorrow we will start to learn about de Bono's Thinking Hats.
Please keep an eye on our blog so that you know which hat we are discussing.

We are back in school on Monday. We will be working in the Library!

After a good break we are ready to start the new term.
Outside room 6 the builders are very busy constructing a deck and ramp.
We are not able to be in our room for a short while. So... we will be in the Library.
I'm sure we will enjoy the change.

Welcome to Riley G. who is joining us in Room 6.

Please keep checking our posts and we love comments from you all.
