Measurement and more...

Over the next five weeks we will work alongside Room 7
 to experience many measurement ideas.
Anna helped again this week.
She worked with a group to make play dough.
A great deal of careful measurement went on.

Our Green Hats came out when we used the dough in many creative ways.

Instructions needed to be carefully followed.

Once the paper cone had been used to measure the beans...

the measuring spoons came out to add popcorn to the cone!

Using the tongs was another challenge.

SPOILER ALERT!!
DAD DO NOT LOOK AT THIS!!

Sh! Sh! We are getting ready for Father's Day.

Eden and Holly received REACH certificates this week.
Congratulations to you both.

A funny play...

A group from room 3 shared a play with us this morning.

We were a good audience.

They were dressed up from our dress up box.

These three boys had a quick costume change.

They changed the sound of their voices which made us laugh.

Thank you so much for sharing this play with us.

Friday fun.

Every Friday we look forward to new ideas and things to make.
Maggie thought we would enjoy making a finger puppet show.

Printmaking is a focus this term
and our talented artists enjoyed making flowers in a vase.

There were some great details added.

Snakes were popular too.

Some of the boys made homes for their snakes with the rods.

Luci and her Mum came up with a very clever rocket idea.
The rocket sat on the end of a straw.
When we blow hard the rocket shoots off at great speed.

Maisie was so good at this
and careful not to aim in the direction of other children.

At the end of DISCOVERY time
we reflect on all the things we have done.

Speaking clearly and listening to each other is so important.
We are getting so good at this.

It's still all about SPACE!

Balloon rockets were all go today.
We huffed and puffed and then attached the balloons and zoom off they went.

Wonderings...

The think tank team found answers.
Only two walked on the moon.
Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin.
Michael Collins piloted the command spacecraft.

Maggie pretended to moon walk using the stilts.

The mini trampoline came out to pretend we were astronauts bouncing on the moon.
We used the vertical number line to measure how high we could jump.

Aliens, astronauts and rockets were great to add to our outer space backgrounds.
We are having so much fun learning about SPACE.
Thank you Anna and Claire for coming every Friday to work with us.

All about Giraffes

Over the last two weeks Rooms 6 and 7 have been talking about giraffes.
We have read great poems.

The white hats were on again to find information about giraffes.

Last week we painted our arms with yellow paint to print a giraffe body.
Today we added detail using our fingers to print the spots.
The eyes are so cool too.

Now we have the display on the wall.

Well we do have a lot of different visitors here at Ashley School.

Today we took a look on Lisa's trailer.

So cute until one calf did a poop
and we all held our noses!
Thank you for bringing them to share.

Astronauts...

During Discovery we continue to look at SPACE and ask questions about ASTRONAUTS.
We already know a lot but we needed to find answers to some questions.
A think tank was set up.
This team reported back their findings.

Discovery is exciting and we have lots of choices.
Some liked the SPACE puzzle challenge.

All children are actively involved.
Check them out!

During REFLECTION time we were excited to talk about what we had been up to today.
Lots of duplo ...

and creations from the junk.

In the quiet room we were focused on our astronauts and rockets.
We added words that had the same endings.
Now this cool display is on the wall.

Again a huge thank you to our supportive parents
who come on Fridays to work alongside us.
