During Maths time we have been working on addition using dice.

We roll, then add from the largest number.

We collaborate with a buddy.

The Pigeon and more...

Mo Willems writes great stories about the Pigeon.
Today we laughed when we heard about him wanting to drive the bus!
Well we told him no!
 He was persistent and pushy.
Then he was silly and sad.
We learnt how to draw him too.

He was so loud about wanting to drive the bus and then he got a bit bossy.
We know he was disappointed but we told him that Pigeons DO NOT drive buses.

We like to write too.
Whenever we get a chance we choose to write on the whiteboards.

Lesley Ottey was at school this week.
When she visits she talks to us about recycling.
After the holidays we are going to make special stakes to go into our garden.
Outside our class we have an area that we find hard to grow things in.
Lesley had the idea to put in our colourful stakes there.

We will thread bottle tops onto bamboo.
We will create patterns with the tops.

Over the next few weeks we ask that you save any plastic tops for us.

Pet Day

What great excitement today.
We came with our saucers and flowers,
our vegetables and toothpicks ready to get creative.
First we worked on our sand saucers.

We shared foliage, flowers and good ideas.
That's the Ashley way.
Next it was time to make our vegetable creatures.

Arabella followed her plan with care.

Tushil's kiwi looked fantastic.

Fern's cat even had a mouse made from an avocado.

Saoirse made a cool duck.

Check out Maisie's sheep. Very clever!

After lunch it was time to judge the pets.

Olivia's real lamb is loved by all her family.
Lots of dogs were on show too.

Matthew and Star.

Hunter handles his dog well.

Lucy cares for her dog.

We hope Jack's chickens liked being at school.
He kept them in the shade.

At the end of this exciting and hot day we needed to have a rest.

We tried out the cushions that Fifi covered.
Fifi is Fern's lovely Nana who also made
our Pukeko wings for our production in July.
Thanks for helping us again.

What a marvelous day.
A huge thank you to Mrs Tipping and Mrs O'Loughlin
for organizing this event.

Static Electricity and more...

What fun at Discovery time when we rubbed balloons on our hair
and then used the electricity to make the tissue butterfly wings flutter.

Our Language Experiences were fun too.
On Thursday we talked about Dragons and what we would do if we met one.
Mrs. Menzies was in while Mrs. Robinson was visiting another school
and she worked with us to create this amazing dragon.
We are so proud of it that we shared it in assembly.

Pete the cat stories are really popular with us.
Last week we shared Pete the Cat and his Four Groovy Buttons.
This week we read about Pete's adventures with his white shoes.

We like it when Pete keeps singing his songs.
He is awesome.

Look at what's going on in Room 6!

Who is this big red dog?

Yes Clifford of course.
He visited us to remind everyone that next week is Book Week.
Next Friday we will all dress up as book characters.

As always there are lots of cool Discovery ideas.
Thank you to Caden for the cool slingshot idea.

Fynn wanted to know about invisible ink.
The vinegar and lemon juice came out to experiment.

Mrs. O'Loughlin found these ballerinas.
They were very popular.

Later in the morning we found out about apples.
We described apples.

We tasted apples.
We asked questions.
Can apples float?

Our apple boats did float.

Now we are carefully watching to see how quickly our apples will rot.
Which will rot first?

Mmmmm! Everyone has a different opinion.
Now we must wait.

Our five new classmates have enjoyed this week.
They were very tired at the end of this first week back.
There will be many more busy weeks ahead.

Welcome back...

A very busy term 4 is ahead of us.
We welcome Azaih, Sam B, Sam H, Tushil and Arabella.

Please remember that we all need to be wearing sun hats.
Popping on sunscreen before school is a great idea.
Children are encouraged to wear sunglasses too.

Athletics practice is underway
and children need suitable footwear for
 sprinting and hurdles.

Last day of term 3 fun.

It was lovely to have senior girls to help with our creative Discovery ideas.

Their idea of dinosaur and fairy eggs was just right for us to make.

Claire came today with all the ingredients to make delicious sushi.
Kim and Anna helped her and we all just ate and ate and ate!
So very popular with everyone.

We have had a productive term printmaking.
Lots of different tools have been experimented with.
Today the corks, cotton buds and potatoes were out again.

Two creative brothers!

Two creative friends!

Have a lovely break with your children.
This term has been so very busy with swimming, gym, hockey
and all the other learning activities.
Next term sees us start with 5 new children.
We have grown.
Happy holiday everyone.
